When you think red carpet, you usually imagine glamorous Hollywood stars walking nonchalantly and pausing for professional photographers but, believe or not, those carpets are also commonly used for a wide variety of events which have nothing to do with Tinseltown.
Here are some of the events where red carpets can be used, beyond the entertainment industry:
- Store openings: When having your store launch party, it’s a great idea to have a red carpet with ribbon cutting to create a memorable event. Of course, this means you will need to invite some VIP guest: if you’re in a big city like Los Angeles or New York, you can invite some celebrities and if you’re in a smaller town, a local government figure will do.
- Trade shows and conventions: trade shows often have a preview day for media and celebrities where red carpets can be unrolled. Same thing with conventions which, in addition, bring in special guests throughout the weekend – for example Comicon in San Diego.
- Museum openings: Major museum exhibits also have a preview day non-open to the public where media, VIP guests, donors and high-rolling members get to walk on the red carpet.
- Fashion shows: During fashion week, renowned fashion designers always have some VIP guests in the first rows and usually also have a red carpet to welcome them.
- Corporate/Branding Events: Whether it’s a company having a special event or launching a new line of product, a red carpet can also be used to welcome guests and media.
- Weddings: Yes, some people have red carpets at their wedding whether it’s at the entrance of the reception or to walk down the aisle.
- Quinceaneras: These events marking a 15th birthday are very important in the Latino community, a red carpet being set at the entrance in that case.
- Birthday parties: Surprisingly, red carpets can also be ordered for a birthday party, not only for kids – often for a 13th, 16th or 18th birthday – but also adults – limestones such as a 4oth or 50th birthday.
- Red carpet theme parties: These are the parties that are set around a red carpet aiming at replicating Hollywood-style events.
