Why is it called step and repeat?

Today’s question comes from Olivia from Miami. As she was inquiring about backdrops for some nightclub opening, she asked us why backdrops are called step and repeat, a question that we’ve actually been getting quite a few times. So here’s the answer.

Dear Olivia,
Step and repeat simply refers to the process of creating a layout where an image, logo or sponsor name is repeated multiple times, creating a uniform pattern. This is actually jargon that is used by designers and associated with design software such as Illustrator and Photoshop.

In our industry, it is of course used for Hollywood movie premieres, these backdrops featuring names of a movie and studios or just event sponsors. Other similar names for step and repeat backdrops include step and repeat walls, media walls, or photo backdrops

Now if you’re looking for a backdrop for your event, you came to the right place! This is our most popular product and we can create for you a custom vinyl backdrop in any size – including standard sizing from 8×8 to 8×112 – and colors. For more information, contact us.
